How long does each therapy session take?
Each therapy session will last 60 minutes.
What happens in a therapy session?
All sessions provide a safe environment in which to explore your difficulties and aim to help you to gain a psychological understanding of how and why these problems developed and the steps you can take to improve your emotional well-being. The precise structure of the sessions will depend on the type of therapy you are undertaking and we will discuss this in further detail during the assessment.
Will my therapy sessions be confidential?
Yes, with exceptions.
1. If you pose a risk to yourself. Under these circumstances, I would encourage you to seek support. If you were unwilling or unable to do so then I have a duty of care to seek support on your behalf. This may involve me contacting your GP. If this were the case I would discuss this with you first, wherever possible.
2. If you disclose that you or somebody else is in danger from a third party, In this case it may be necessary for me to report the risk to the appropriate authorities. I would discuss this with you first, wherever possible.
3. If you disclose that you intend to cause harm to somebody else. In this case I have a legal obligation to inform the authorities.
What if I need to cancel my therapy session?
I understand that it is not always possible to attend sessions as planned. As long as you cancel with more than 48 hours notice, you will not be charged for the session. Sessions cancelled after this time will be charged for in full.
Will you be available outside of session times ?
I am not able to provide support outside of session times. In the event of a crisis you would need to seek help by contacting your GP, using the Samaritans (call 116 123, www.samaritans.org), or, if necessary, contacting emergency services.
How many sessions will I need?
This is flexible but is normally agreed at the start of therapy, and reviewed as therapy progresses. Most people have between 6 to 24 sessions depending on the problems and therapeutic model we are working with. There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions.
Do you see people online and face to face?
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic I am only offering therapy appointments online at present.
